A police officer in England has been charged with murder over the death of a former Premier League footballer.
In August 2016, former Aston Villa and Manchester City striker Dalian Atkinson died after being tasered by police officers.
The police were responding a call citing concerns for the "safety of an individual" after Atkinson had reportedly threatened to kill his father when the use of the taser was deemed necessary to defuse the situation, according to the Daily Telegraph.
Atkinson, who had previously suffered health concerns, went into cardiac arrest after being tasered and was pronounced dead upon his arrival at hospital.

The Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) in England has confirmed that charges have been laid against the officers present on the evening.
"Following the death of Dalian Atkinson in Telford on August 15 2016, the Crown Prosecution Service has today authorised a charge of murder against a West Mercia police constable," the CPS said in a statement, as per ESPN.
"A second police constable, from the same force, has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm. Mr Atkinson's family has been informed."
Atkinson scored 25 goals in 85 appearances for Villa, and two more in eight appearances for City, and also turned out for clubs in Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Spain and South Korea.
