FC Barcelona have reportedly identified African superstar Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang as a "Plan B" in their search for a new striker.
While Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martínez is rumoured to be the Blaugrana's main target once this season ends, his £98 million (R2.1 billion) release clause could see the LaLiga giants pursue alternative options instead.
The LaLiga leaders, like many other clubs, have been financially impacted by the coronavirus pandemic, thus potentially forcing them to seek out cheaper solutions to refresh their frontline.
According to the Daily Mail, the five-time UEFA Champions League winners are considering Arsenal striker Aubameyang as an alternative to Martinez.
It is claimed that the African superstar could be available for a cut-price £18 million (R381 million) in the coming window, with his deal expiring in 2021.
The London-based outfit are keen to continue contract negotiations in a bid to extend his stay, but Aubameyang has rejected all offers thus far.
Although the Gabon superstar is about to reach the age of 31, he won the Premier League's Golden Boot award along with Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane last season.
The striker has scored 20 goals and registered one assist in 32 appearances across all competitions for the Gunners so far this season.
