Pep Guardiola Praises 'Exceptional' Yaya Toure

Pep Guardiola has once again hailed his former outcast Yaya Toure, although the opposition coach insisted the African should have seen a red card in the club's latest encounter.

The retired Ivory Coast international was among the key players during City's 3-0 FA Cup win over Crystal Palace on Saturday, scoring his side's third goal with a sublime free-kick.

The 33-year-old has impressed since returning to Guardiola's squad after initially being frozen out due to his agent's public row with the coach.

"Yaya, with his quality, scoring the third – he is an exceptional player," the City boss said, as quoted by FourFourTwo.

"Last time we came here (on 19 November) he won the game, and today he scored an exceptional goal from a long way out.

"Since he has come back to the team, he has been playing perfect."

However, Palace coach Sam Allardyce insisted that Toure should have been sent off after a second yellow card challenge on Jordon Mutch.

"You mean should have been down to 10 men? Yeah," the former England manager told ESPN.

"They should have been down. Mutch had been booked for much less. That was a sending-off, so the referee hasn't done his job.

"On the consistency of what the referee was doing, (that) was a certain yellow card. But I've got more to worry about (with) the players, and goals we conceded, than referees at the moment."

Overall, Toure, whose current contract expires the end of the campaign, has scored five goals and assisted one further strike in 14 games this season.

I think Pep is a good leader because he is able to give credit where it is due. Yaya suffered because of his agent but all of that is water under the bridge, that is why I respect Pep for this. Bravo!
