Pep Eyes Midfield Reinforcements, Targets Revealed?

Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola is reportedly looking to sign "three or four" midfielders, among them an FC Barcelona and Manchester United target.

The former Bayern Munich mentor saw his side claim a fourth consecutive Premier League victory with a 3-0 win over Huddersfield Town on the weekend, courtesy of goals by Danilo, Raheem Sterling and Leroy Sane.
Despite garnering maximum points from that fixture, Guardiola has reiterated the club's need for cover in the defensive midfield department.
"I think the way we play, we need a guy with physicality, quick in the head and in reading our spaces to attack," the Spaniard was quoted as saying in a press conference by ESPN.
"The more things he can do, the better. It is not easy to find one player who can do everything. The price, the agents, the clubs when you want to buy the player… We will see. We have seen many. There are three or four we are searching for in that position."
The defending Premier League champions have struggled without the presence of midfielder Fernandinho, who sustained a thigh injury midway through December. The injury subsequently proved a big blow for Guardiola's side, who suffered shock losses against Crystal Palace and Leicester City.
As a result, Guardiola is said to have lined up four midfielders in a bid to shore up City's engine room, with an Ajax Amsterdam player, an Olympique Lyon duo and a Schalke midfielder all reportedly being earmarked for moves to the Etihad.
Ajax star Frenkie de Jong has reportedly attracted interest from a host of top European teams, including Barcelona, Paris Saint-Germain, City and Manchester United.
A move to the Premier League is said to be a viable option for the Dutch starlet, but with PSG midfielder Adrien Rabiot said to be poised for a move to the Blaugrana, the Parisian outfit are believed to be frontrunners for De Jong's signature.
Guardiola is also known to be a keen admirer of Lyon duo Houssem Aouar and Tanguy Ndombele. The French pair were publicly praised by the Spaniard after the two sides' Champions League encounters last year.
The latest reports from England claim that City could dip into the transfer market for a short-term option in midfield, with Germany international and Schalke midfielder Sebastian Rudy reportedly the target.
