Pep Guardiola has confirmed that one of his Manchester City stars is close to joining Barcelona ahead of the January transfer window.
It has been rumoured in recent days that the Spanish giants are closing in on a deal to sign City and Spain forward Ferran Torres, who joined the Manchester-based club in 2020 from Valencia.
Guardiola has now confirmed that the 21-year-old has communicated his desire to join the Catalan club and will be granted his wish.
"If Barcelona and Real Madrid want a player, it's difficult to say no; the strongest teams in the world," he said in a pre-match press conference ahead of City's match against Leicester City on Sunday, according to City Xtra.
"He (Ferran) is from Spain, Barcelona want him, he said he wants to leave, I said leave. I called Txiki (Begiristain, City's director of football), his agent makes a deal. I hear the deal is close.
"I said many times, if you are not happy, you have to leave. We are not a club like other teams when you want to leave and the CEO/president say no!"
Torres has missed most of this season due to injury, although his time in England has been productive.
Last season, the Spanish attacker struck 13 times and assisted a further three goals in 36 matches across all competitions.
