Pep Backs Yaya For EPL Move

Pep Guardiola Backs Yaya Toure For Premier League Move

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola and Yaya Toure did not always have the best relationship, but the Spaniard has now backed the African superstar to keep on playing in the Premier League.

The Spanish tactician announced on Friday that the Citizens will not extend the 34-year-old's contract, and that Toure will leave the club at the end of the season.

Guardiola has now insisted that the four-time African Footballer of the Year still has what it takes to play top-level football, despite only playing 142 minutes in City's title-winning 2017/18 Premier League campaign so far.

"I am not going to judge Yaya for what happened this season. Maybe I was wrong this season," Guardiola said, as quoted by ESPN, when asked whether or not he thinks the African can still perform in the English top flight.

"We have to analyse a career, not just in Manchester, in Barcelona and Monaco.

"He is a player with a huge personality, he doesn't feel the pressure, it doesn't matter where he plays. He loves to play football. Every day in the training sessions I saw nothing changed my opinions.

"He was the only guy last season we extend the contract. His behaviour was good. Hopefully he can stay in football and come back maybe here.

"I am not the right guy to say to him what is the best. He will choose. I think he has still the desire to play. He loves to play football. He likes the game and he enjoys the training sessions, especially with the ball. My advice, if he still has desire to play, he has to continue. If you have doubt, you have to retire, it is over."

Toure, who has won seven trophies since joining the club in 2010, will start City's final home game against Brighton & Hove Albion on Wednesday night, with Guardiola confirming they want to win the game for the midfielder.
