Newcastle United have reportedly agreed a deal to sign a FC Barcelona attacker ahead of the January transfer window.
The Magpies will be keen on bolstering their squad next month after getting new wealthy owners in November, which ended Mike Ashley's 14-year stay at the club.
The Premier League's bottom side have been linked with a number of player since the takeover, but it seems Blaugrana attacker Ousmane Dembele could be their first signing.
Spanish publication Todo Fichajes have reported that the Magpies have a deal in place for the 2018 World Cup winner, who decided against signing a new deal with the Camp Nou outfit.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta wants Dembele to stay at the club, but also admitted that there is a salary limit at the Spanish club.
“We can’t ignore that there’s a salary limit and Barcelona’s is very reduced. And (to sign) first we have to grow that limit and the only way to do that is to sell some players,” he said on TV3, cited by Sport.
“Xavi knows with which players he counts on and is in permanent communication with our director of football, Mateu Alemany.
“He [Dembele] can be a key player if we get him to stay. It’s very important, we think he can give a lot more than he has given to Barcelona.”
