'Man Utd Were The Laughing Stock Under Mourinho'

One of Manchester United's longest-serving players has opened up about the Red Devils' turnaround in fortunes since the sacking of former coach Jose Mourinho in December.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's charges extended their unbeaten streak to 11 games in all competitions following a comprehensive 3-0 victory against Fulham at Craven Cottage on Saturday.

Central defender, Phil Jones, who recently penned a contract extension with the Old Trafford outfit which will see him remain at the club until 2023, has detailed how things have changed at the club.

"Everyone’s got to take us seriously now," Jones was quoted as saying by Manchester Evening News.

"We might have been a bit of a laughing stock at the beginning of the season but we’re certainly not now. We’ve proven that in the last ten or twelve games. We’re improving, we’re still getting better."

"It was tough for everyone involved. The club, the supporters, everyone," Jones added. "But it’s about becoming stronger and seeing that through. I’ve said it in the past, we’ve not achieved anything yet, we’re under no illusions but we’re heading in the right direction.

The England international was linked with a exit from United prior to committing his future to the club, however Jones stated that he was not worried about his future with the club, eve if they dip into the transfer market.

"Not really, if I’m brutally honest. Since I’ve come to this club we’ve signed players left, right and centre: forwards, defenders, goalkeepers.

"We’re Man United, of course we’re going to be interested in the best players in the world, I’d be pretty amazed if we weren’t."

"We knew we could get into the top four. It’s a big statement from where we were. We just need to keep improving and keep picking up points.

"Consistency is key in any sport and it’s no different here. We’re putting a run together, we need to keep momentum going and pick up points. It's a tough period coming up, but these are the games you want to play in, the games you want to be available for. Bring it on!"

Jones has made a total of 17 appearances in all competitions this season, while being on hand to assist one goal, which came in United's 3-0 victory over the weekend.
