Premier League giants Manchester United are reportedly interested in a Serie A star, and are said to be willing to double his salary in order to secure his signature.
According to Corriere dello Sport, the Red Devils have already met with Roma midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini's agent.
It has been claimed that United's interest has Roma desperately trying to remove the €30 million (R479 million) release clause believed to be in his contract.
Manager Jose Mourinho is said to be a huge admirer of the Italy international, and hopes the Old Trafford club's board can lure the 22-year-old to England in the January transfer window.
Roma's director of football Monchi is keen to hang on to the player, having already lost midfielders Radja Nainggolan and Kevin Strootman in the latest window.
The Italian publication also claimed that United are prepared to double Pellegrini's current €1 million (R15 million) annual salary.
The Italy midfielder has been in fine form for Roma so far this season, scoring two goals and assisting a further five strikes in 13 matches across all competitions.
