It is believed that Manchester United are set to go up against FC Barcelona in the race for the signature of a Brazilian star who represented the Selecao at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.
The Blaugrana have been heavily linked with Chelsea winger Willian in recent weeks, but according to The Sun, they face stiff competition in their pursuit of the 29-year-old.
Mourinho has reportedly been targeting his former player since he was named United manager, and it has now been claimed the Red Devils are ready to offer the Blues €60 million (R945 million) for the Brazil star, who joined Chelsea five years ago from Anzhi Makhachkala in Russia.
Willian recently admitted he was flattered by rumours linking him with Barca, but United apparently feel their recent acquisition of his Brazil teammate Fred could help in their attempt to sign the winger.
Another advantage the Manchester club may have is that Mourinho has previously worked with the attacker, but a new challenge in Spain might interest the Selecao star even more.
Willian has scored 44 goals and assisted a further 39 strikes in 236 matches for Chelsea since joining the club in 2013.
