It seems a number of Manchester United players have already taken steps to end their association with Mason Greenwood following the rape and domestic violence allegations made against the striker, while Nike has announced they have suspended their relationship with him.
Man Utd Make Decision On Greenwood After Abuse Allegations
On Sunday, it was reported that the 20-year-old forward had been arrested after his girlfriend appeared to expose him for being a domestic abuser.
In a series of Instagram stories that went viral online on Sunday morning, the alleged victim shared pictures of bruises on her body, as well as a disturbing audio recording in which a man could be heard forcing himself on to a woman.
Later on Sunday afternoon, police confirmed that a man in his 20s had been arrested on suspicion of rape and assault, not long before United announced that Greenwood would be suspended until further notice.
According to the Daily Mail, several of the player's teammates have since taken action and have unfollowed him from their social media accounts, including Paul Pogba and Cristiano Ronaldo.
It is said that Marcus Rashford and David de Gea have also looked to limit their association with Greenwood, who is said to still be in police custody while the investigation is ongoing.
The player's future as a professional footballer now appears to be hanging in the balance, with it being widely suggested that United should set an example by terminating his contract.
Nike, with whom he has a contract, has announced that it has suspended its relationship with Greenwood following the accusations made against him.
"We have suspended our relationship with Mason Greenwood. We are deeply concerned by the disturbing allegations and will continue to closely monitor the situation," a statement from the company read.
