A Manchester United first-team regular has revealed the 10-minute discussion he had with manager Jose Mourinho upon finding out he had been dropped from the starting XI.
Striker Romelu Lukaku has struggled for form this season, having found the back of the net on just four occasions in 17 matches across all competitions so far.
The Belgian found himself on the bench against both Manchester City and Everton recently, and also started on the sidelines against Young Boys this week.
Asked about being dropped, Lukaku has admitted he was not happy.
"I was like, 'Oh wow, sh*t happened', but I really had a conversation with the coach about it and I said 'Listen, it's been a long year and also with the World Cup, I felt a bit tired'. He (Mourinho) saw it. He made his decision," he told Bleacher Report.
"He said I didn't look happy. That I was angry. And I said 'Yeah, hell yeah I'm angry. Like, do you think I should smile?'
"And then we had that little chat and then after that chat we just moved on. It was like 10 minutes, and from then on, you know, it opened something in myself, like a new fire to go and get what's mine."
Since joining United last year, Lukaku has scored 31 goals and assisted a further 11 strikes in 68 matches.
