According to Sport Witness, the Red Devils are said to be closing in on the signature of Brazilian playmaker Anderson Talisca.
The player has impressed at Besiktas over the past two seasons, where he has been on loan from Portuguese club Benfica, and has been tipped to take his career to the next level.
Mourinho is said to have admired the 24-year-old for some time, while the player is also reportedly keen to work with the United manager.
Reports suggest the Brazilian could cost United about €40 million (R601 million), although a higher bid might see the Benfica-owned player go elsewhere.
Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool has also expressed interested in the player previously, but many have tipped the attacking midfielder to join Mourinho in England.
Talisca, who will not be a part of Brazil's 23-man squad at the 2018 FIFA World Cup, scored 20 goals and assisted a further eight strikes in 47 games for Besiktas this season.
