Man Utd Owners To Sell Club?

After the massive backlash they received for joining the European Super League (ESL), there are rumours that Manchester United's owners could now sell the Premier League giants.

The Red Devils announced on Sunday that the club would be one of the 12 founding members of the European Super League, with Joel Glazer to be vice-chairman of the controversial breakaway competition.

However, following a massive outrage from fans, pundits, other Premier League clubs and almost everyone involved in the English game, United, along with the other five Premier League teams that wanted to be part of the big-money league, withdrew from the ESL.

The Manchester club also announced that longstanding vice-executive chairman Ed Woodward would leave his role by the end of 2021, with it being believed that this decision was heavily influenced by his role in creating the ESL.

With Woodward, who is considered by many to be the face of the club's American owners, set to leave Old Trafford, some have speculated that the Glazers will soon do the same.

The American family took over United in 2005, in a deal worth £790 million (R15.6 billion), but have since come in for much criticism from fans, pundits and club legends due to how they have been running the institution.

The failed ESL project might have been the final straw in the Glazers' poor relationship with the club's fans, and they could attempt to follow Woodward out the exit door.

Former United defender Gary Neville publicly called out the Red Devils' owners on Sky Sports on Monday before the club withdrew from the ESL.

"I've stayed quiet over the Glazer family on the basis that it's still Manchester United, I can still watch them play, I can still be happy and sad," he said.

"If they take dividends out, I can live with that slightly. I can't live with them attacking every football fan in this country.

"They've overstepped the mark. They are scavengers, they need booting out of this football club and out of this country."
