Last season's Premier League champions had their two-year European suspension overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport on Monday, a decision that has thrilled all involved at City.
Reports across Europe have already linked Guardiola with a number of talented players, with it being claimed the Spanish tactician is determined to compete with Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool, who set a record by wrapping up this season's league title with seven games remaining.
The Daily Mail has reported that the former Bayern Munich boss is interested in luring Bavarians left-back David Alaba to England, a player that would undoubtedly command a big transfer fee. The 28-year-old was a first-team regular under Guardiola in Germany, and can be used in a number of positions.
Inter Milan striker Lautaro Martinez is also said to be an option for the manager after reports in Spain linking the Argentine striker with FC Barcelona died down due to the Spanish giants not having the funds to trigger his release clause.
Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Jan Vertonghen is reportedly also being considered as a cheaper option – perhaps as an alternative to Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly – with his contract in London expiring at the end of the campaign.
