According to the Daily Mirror and several other European outlets, the Citizens are preparing to open contract negotiations with Sterling in the coming months.
The star's improvement under Pep Guardiola has made him look almost a different player this campaign, and his importance to his club has become clear for fans and pundits to see.
City's board reportedly feel Sterling is fully deserving of a new deal and an improved weekly wage, despite already being the best paid English player in the country's top division.
The 23-year-old is believed to earn about £180 000 (R2.9 million) every week at City, but it has now been claimed that figure could rise to £270 000 (R4.4 million).
It has even been said that Real Madrid are monitoring the former Liverpool star, who could be a back-up target if the Spanish club fail in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain's Neymar.
Sterling is currently enjoying his best season in the top flight, having scored 20 goals and assisted a further 11 strikes in 37 matches across all competitions for the Citizens so far.
