Pep: What I Admire About Mourinho
Manchester City's Pep Guardiola: What I Admire About Manchester United's Jose Mourinho
Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has explained what he admires about his rival Jose Mourinho, with whom he has had several public spats over the years.
After working together at FC Barcelona in their younger days when Mourinho was a translator for Sir Bobby Robson, Guardiola and the Portuguese became arch-rivals on the touchlines of European football years later.
The managers first met in the UEFA Champions League in 2010, before they became enemies in LaLiga when Mourinho was named manager of Real Madrid later that year.
Guardiola, who managed Barca from 2008 to 2012, has now praised the influence Mourinho has on his players, who he believes are always willing to fight for the Portuguese.
"Of course, Jose (Mourinho) is a huge competitor," he told Sky Sports.
"The way he convinces them to be his teams.
"I admire the big quality teams are always like soldiers in the way they defend and the quality they have.
"I enjoy watching football and the way different teams play."
Guardiola won the Premier League comfortably with City this season, while Mourinho's Manchester United finished in second place.
