Ivory Coast international Eric Bailly is set to undergo surgery on his ankle and will most of the season.

The defender has not featured since the 1-0 defeat to Chelsea on 5 November 2017, but Mourinho is confident the player will not miss the rest of the season.

“He [Bailly] goes to surgery, the decision is made,” Mourinho told MUTV.

“I don’t say [he’s out] for the rest of the season but it’s for the next two or three months.”

Following United's win over Bournemouth, Mourinho commented the current injury situation among the defenders.

“During the whole season, we’ve had problems with central defenders but because the number is four or five, we manage always to have [players available] and Chris Smalling is playing amazingly well for seven or eight matches in a row maybe, so we are fine,” the Red Devils coach said.
