Liverpool are in a race against the clock as they reportedly look to secure an important deadline-day signing.
The Reds have found themselves in the midst of a defensive crisis, with a number of their first-choice centre-backs having suffered long-term injuries.
With Joel Matip being the latest casualty, Jurgen Klopp has reportedly identified Schalke defender Ozan Kabak as an option to bolster his squad.
According to Sky Sports, preparations are underway for the 20-year-old to undergo a medical if the Merseysiders are able to strike a deal with the Bundesliga side.

The Reds are hoping to secure the player on a loan fee of around €2.5 million (R45.7 million), with the option to make the move permanent for €30 million (R548 million) at the end of the season.
Kabak has reportedly been on Liverpool's radar in recent months, but with the defender having only moved to Schalke in 2019, his current deal is only set to expire in 2024.
Schalke are looking to tie up Shkodran Mustafi as a replacement, and a deal for the Arsenal defender could potentially trigger Kabak's move to Anfield.
However, both clubs are facing a race against time as the German window closes at 19:00 (SA time).
The Reds are also said to be close to securing a deal for Preston North End defender Ben Davies, who is believed to be undergoing a medical with the club.
