Following a gruelling Africa Cup of Nations campaign, a Liverpool star has been given an extended break and will miss the start of the season.
Liverpool's 2019/20 campaign kicks off on 4 August, when the club takes on reigning league champions Manchester City in the FA Community Shield.
Reds forward Sadio Mane will play no part in the match, however, after the club granted the Senegalese star an extended break following his nation's run to the Afcon 2019 final.
Speaking to the Reds' website, Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp confirmed that Mane will miss the Community Shield but says he expects the 27-year old to be in contention for the start of the league campaign.
"He is now on holiday, not the longest one – he will be back on 5 August, after the Manchester City game. That means he had two weeks. There is four or five days to prepare for Norwich, 10 days for Chelsea (in the UEFA Super Cup)," Klopp said.
Mane was one of the stars at Afcon 2019, where he scored three goals but was unable to help Senegal claim their first ever title after suffering defeat to Algeria in the final.
Mane scored 22 goals in the Premier League last season, and was the league's joint-top goalscorer alongside Pierre-Erick Aubameyang and teammate Mohamed Salah.
