The Reds have, so far, only added left-back Konstantino Tsimikas, who joined the club from Olympiakos, to their ranks ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
According to journalist Constantin Eckner, however, Liverpool have already agreed personal terms with Thiago Alcantara, but are yet to agree a transfer fee with his club, Bayern Munich.
The German giants are believed to be holding out for €30 million (R595 million), while Jurgen Klopp's side has offered €25 million (R496 million) thus far.
Thiago's current contract expires in 2021, so Bayern run the risk of losing him for free next year if they cannot agree on a sale in this window.
The player reportedly informed his club's bosses that he wants a new challenge after famously winning the treble with the Bavarians in the 2019/20 campaign, but nonetheless returned to training on Friday.
He has made 235 appearances for the Bundesliga club since joining from Barcelona in 2013, scoring 31 goals and assisting a further 37 strikes.
Thiago has also lifted 17 trophies during his stint in Germany, and many believe he would add another dimension to Klopp's Reds if he made the switch to Anfield.
