The 29-year-old set up one goal and scored twice in City's 5-0 thrashing of Norwich City on the final day of the campaign.
As a result, he matched Henry's record of 20 assists in a single Premier League season, which the former Arsenal striker set in the 2002/03 campaign.
De Bruyne, though, has insisted he actually broke the Frenchman's record, believing he has two more assists to his name than were officially registered.
"I have got two more (assists). You guys took two away from me," he said pitch-side after the match against Norwich, as quoted by talkSPORT.
"I'm still claiming that one. For me, I was already there (level with Henry's record)."

The Belgian also became the first player in history to register 20 or more assists in two of Europe's top five leagues, having also done so during his time at Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga, and insisted he could not have done it without his teammates.
"It's obviously a nice achievement but I only do half the job," he added
"I'm very grateful to my teammates for the way they finish off the chances. Without them, I wouldn't have got that many assists."
Meanwhile, De Bruyne's teammate Ederson was awarded the Golden Glove for the 2019/20 Premier League season after keeping 16 clean sheets.
