Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has joked that the injured Thiago Alcantara, who has played just twice this season, will be like a January signing for the Premier League champions.
'Angry' CR7 Equals Impressive 59-Year-Old Record
The Spain international has featured just twice for the Reds since his arrival at the club ahead of this season, with both appearances coming in the Premier League.
Thiago is believed to be getting back to fitness slowly but surely, and Klopp has admitted there is a running inside joke at the club that the former Bayern Munich midfielder will have the effect of a January arrival.
"He is (eager to get back). We already made jokes here; we said 'I think we should sign Thiago for January!'" he said, according to Goal.
"He is getting closer and closer. He is in a good way, but we will not rush it and we cannot rush it. He is not allowed to rush it.
"Of course, it's nice to have him on the pitch. He is not in team training yet and that's actually the final step.
"We will see how it is, we look at him on the pitch and then next week can he be in team training? I don’t know, 100%. (He will have) a few tests, he has to pass a few until we make that decision."
Pele Sends Message To Messi After Equalling Record
Thiago has missed 14 matches since signing for Klopp's Liverpool, four of which because he contracted the coronavirus in late September.
