Jose Mourinho: Why I Wanted Zlatan Ibrahimovic Back
On Thursday afternoon, Manchester United announced that Zlatan Ibrahimovic had rejoined the club, and manager Jose Mourinho has now revealed why he wanted the 35-year-old striker back.
Ibrahimovic's initial contract with the Red Devils had expired in June, with United opting against exercising a clause to extend the deal.
However, on Thursday, the club announced that the Swede, who is currently recovering from a serious knee injury, has signed a new one-year contract.
"We are delighted Zlatan is on the road to recovery and we are equally delighted to have his ambition and experience back with us," Mourinho told United's official website.
"After his contribution last season, he deserves our trust and we will be patient waiting for him to return.
"I have no doubt that he will be important in the second part of the season."
Ibrahimovic scored 28 goals in 46 appearances in his debut season for the Red Devils, helping them lift three titles in the process.
The striker will now wear the No. 10 jersey at United after new club record signing Romelu Lukaku picked up the No. 9 shirt the Swede wore last season.
