Jose Mourinho: We Were Denied A Clear Penalty!
Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho felt his side were denied a clear penalty in their 2-1 defeat to rivals Manchester City on Sunday.
With 11 minutes left in the game and the score at 1-0 to City, defender Nicolas Otamendi was involved in a controversial moment when Red Devils midfielder Ander Herrera went down in the box following a challenge from the Argentine, but referee Michael Oliver saw otherwise and decided to book the Spaniard for diving instead of pointing to the spot.
However, Mourinho believes the referee's decision cost his side a valuable point on the night.
"Clear penalty. I'm sorry for us, for Michael, I think he had a good game, but it's a clear penalty. Don't you agree?” Mourinho told Sky Sports.
"The referee made a mistake, which can happen. Last season, we had a similar situation against Manchester City, who were winning 2-1 and Mr (Mark) Clattenburg didn't see the penalty of Bravo on Rooney.
"I'm sorry for Michael Oliver because he had a good performance.
"He is a human being, he tried his best, he was very committed to having a good match, which I think he had. But he made one mistake, and it was the crucial mistake for the result of the match."
United are still second in the Premier League, but now trail their city rivals by 11 points.
