Reports suggest that under-fire Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho could be sacked by the end of the season on one condition, and the club has already reportedly identified their top target to replace him.
United are currently eighth in the Premier League after losing the Manchester derby 3-1 to crosstown rivals Manchester City on Sunday.
As a consequence, United dropped 12 points behind Pep Guardiola's side, and the 2018/19 league title is now seemingly out of their reach.
Even a place in the top four and subsequent qualification for next season's UEFA Champions League appear a tough task with United currently seven points off the pace.
According to The Sun, Mourinho will be sacked if he fails to qualify for the 2019/20 edition of the Champions League, with United's bosses having left him in no doubt that UCL football next season is critical to his future at Old Trafford.
Mauricio Pochettino is believed to be the United board's favourite to take over from Mourinho as the club's next coach if the Portuguese tactician is fired, although it will be difficult to lure him away from Tottenham Hotspur.
