Having been unemployed since December last year, Mourinho is believed to have been offered a number of jobs across the world in the past few months.
The former Manchester United boss is said to have rejected the chance to take his career to the Chinese Super League, while it has also been reported that he turned down an offer from Ligue 1's Olympique Lyon.
Upon that decision, reports in England suggested he was desperate to return to the UK, and in particular, to take over as manager of Tottenham Hotspur.
The London club has won just three matches across all competitions so far this season, with Mauricio Pochettino under great pressure to get Spurs back to winning ways.
The team's poor form has been put down to a number of first-team players being in the last year of their contracts, seemingly causing unrest in the squad – the same squad that reached the final of the UEFA Champions League in May.
According to Soccer Link, the Lilywhites have contacted Mourinho to gauge his interest in potentially replacing Pochettino, whose name is still linked with the Manchester United job.
The Portuguese boss has previously managed Chelsea and the Red Devils in England, winning the Premier League on three occasions.
