Charismatic German manager Jürgen Klopp, who was in South Africa on Wednesday night, explained why he decided to accept the Liverpool job in October 2015.
The 50-year-old was a special guest speaker at a charity event in Hout Bay, Cape Town, on Wednesday evening, where he spoke about his career as a manager, along with various other topics.
Klopp, who left Bundesliga side Borussia Dortmund for the Reds two years ago, admitted that despite interest in his signature from elsewhere, the allure of Liverpool hooked him.
“Why Liverpool? I had an offer of another historical English club two years ago, but I never felt comfortable with how they understood football,” he said at the event, according to Soccer Laduma.
“It didn’t feel right. When Liverpool called, I can’t explain it. It was right.”
It has not all been smiles for Klopp since arriving in England, however, but the German is confident his side will continue to grow.
“We have to improve, 100%. But we will,” he added.
“We are fine and the owners are happy. Liverpool is a fantastic club, and my aim is to win the Premier League with it.”
Klopp has so far been in charge of 79 games in the Premier League, winning 40 matches, drawing 23 times and losing on 16 occasions.
