The former Chelsea boss is expected to play a 4-1-4-1 formation in the upcoming season, which is slightly different from his favoured 4-2-3-1 formation, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The 2016/17 UEFA Europa league winners have made three signings so far in this window, but only two of them are expected to walk straight into the first XI.

Spain international David de Gea is almost certain start in goals for the Old Trafford club. The 26-year-old has been one of the team's standout players over the past few seasons, and there is no doubt he will want to help his side win silverware in 2017/18.

In Mourinho's four-man defence, the Manchester publication feels that Ecuadorian Antonio Valencia will start at right back, while Italy defender Matteo Darmian might pip Luke Shaw and Daley Blind to the left-back role. In central defence, Eric Bailly and Phil Jones are expected to start the season together as Victor Lindelof is not quite settled in just yet.

Nemanja Matic may play as the Portuguese tactician's lone defensive midfielder, with Paul Pogba and Ander Herrera in front of him. France international Anthony Martial and Armenian Henrikh Mkhitaryan are expected to play left and right wing, respectively.

Former Everton striker Romelu Lukaku will be expected to lead the line for the Red Devils following his big-money move from the Toffees, but will face stiff competition from England international Marcus Rashford.
