Spain international Dani Ceballos joined Arsenal on loan from Los Blancos, despite previously being heavily linked with a switch to Tottenham Hotspur.
With Marco Asensio recently suffering an injury that has seen him ruled out for the entire 2019/20 season, many wondered if Real would fight to hang on to Ceballos, but the move has now been confirmed.
Having said he hopes to play at least 40 matches next season, Emery is likely to use the playmaker as a first-team regular, but how and where would he fit into the Arsenal team?
In a three-man midfield, the 22-year-old might be best deployed alongside a more defensive central player, Lucas Torreira, with Granit Xhaka most likely to be the third midfielder. Ceballos would probably be used in a more advance role, where he will look to create for his attacking teammates.
The arrival of Ceballos might allow Emery to use the experienced Mesut Ozil in a front-three, where he would not be relied upon for defensive duties. While he was linked with a move away from Arsenal, discussions over his exit seems to have quieted down.
Ceballos joined Real two years ago from Real Betis, but has struggled to stamp his authority on the team, having played just seven UEFA Champions League matches and 35 LaLiga games since his arrival.
The player did a remarkable job for Spain at the U21 European Championship, a tournament they won, though he is also a full international with La Furia Roja’s senior side.
