Cristiano Ronaldo took over the famous number seven shirt from David Beckham at Manchester United but it is claimed the Englishman was better defensively than the Portuguese.
Both players have a lot in common as they rose to stardom at Old Trafford, winning several titles – including the Champions League.
Beckham played between 1992 and 2003 before joining Real Madrid, while Ronaldo joined Old Trafford the following season and only left the club in 2009.
United legend Gary Neville played alongside both players and has now revealed that the former England captain did more defensive work than Ronaldo
“Beckham. Definitely Beckham,” he replied on talkSPORT when asked who was helping him better on the right flank.
“Ronaldo just ignored me.”
Ronaldo eventually followed Beckham’s path to Real Madrid and it is often claimed that the three-time Ballon d’Or winner still lacks defensive work.
Beckham made 374 appearances for United, scoring 83 goals and assisting a further 27, while Ronaldo wore the Red Devils shirt 291 times, scoring 118 goals and assisting in 65 more.
