Result: Bayern Munich 1-0 Manchester United
Date: 05 August 2018
Venue: Allianz Arena
Manchester United ended their pre-season with a disappointing 1-0 defeat to Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Marcus Rashford was handed a start in the United attack alongside Alexis Sanchez and Juan Mata, while Thomas Muller, Franck Ribery and Arjen headed up Bayern's attack.
The opening stages of the encounter proved to be a quiet affair as both sides looked to find their rhythm in the opening 20 minutes.
Robben managed to carve out a half a chance for the Bavarians on 30 minutes but Andreas Pereira popped up with a timely intervention to deny the Dutchman.
Bayern edged the Red Devils in the final 15 minutes of the first half but they only had two long range efforts to show for the efforts.
The deadlock was eventually broken after 59 minutes as Javi Martinez rose above his marker to head from a corner to put Bayern ahead.
Jose Mourinho responded by making three changes as Juan Mata, Rashford and Matteo Darmian made way for Scott McTominay, Phil Jones and Timothy Fosu-Mensah.
United were disappointing in the second half, having failed to carve out a serious opening in the final third.
The final stages proved to be a similar affair for Mourinho's men, as they made no attempt at goal as Bayern held on for the win.
United begin their Premier League campaign with a clash against Leicester City on Friday evening.
