Former FIFA World Cup Winner: Why Manchester United Boss Jose Mourinho Isn't Getting Paul Pogba & Alexis Sanchez To Gel
The Red Devils, who have had some inconsistent performances this season, have also dropped unnecessary points at times and now only find themselves just four points ahead of fourth-placed Tottenham Hotspur.
Former Germany international Lotthar Matthaus claims that Mourinho’s tactical approach is the reason for his team's struggles and it is also the reason why we are not seeing the best from Pogba and January signing Sanchez.
"Jose Mourinho’s problem is picking the players who fit the system but at the moment I don’t have a feeling when I watch United that anybody is comfortable or that this team works,” Matthaus wrote in his column for The Sun.
"Pogba should be able to play in a team with Sanchez but it seems they should not be on the same side of the pitch.
"When they are on the same flank there is a defensive problem - Pogba leaves that side open.
"The shape should be more compact, with one holder, two more advanced midfielders, men wide and one striker."
The Red Devils have a tough two weeks coming up as they face Chelsea, Crystal Palace, Liverpool and Sevilla during that period.
