The Premier League's transfer window closes on 9 August, a day before the Red Devils start the new campaign against Leicester City.
However, according to The Independent, United and Mourinho are looking to kick-start their window in the coming week, and are considering deals for Robert Lewandowski and Thiago Alcantara.
Bayern are understood to be open to selling Alcantara, who was close to joining United before a last-minute change of mind thanks to Pep Guardiola in 2013, while Lewandowski reportedly wants to leave the German giants.
Los Blancos winger Gareth Bale remains a player Mourinho is keen to sign. The Welshman has stated his desire for regular game time this season, and has asked for a meeting with new Real coach Julen Lopetegui to clarify his role in the team.
Tottenham Hotspur centre-back Toby Alderweireld is also on Mourinho's wish list, but negotiations between the two clubs reportedly broke down after United felt that Spurs' asking price for a player whose contract expires at the end of 2018/19 became too much.
However, the Red Devils remain keen on the Belgium defender, while Juventus left-back Alex Sandro is also still on United's radar. It has been claimed that Mourinho is giving Luke Shaw a final chance to impress during pre-season, but is willing to upgrade to the Brazilian if the Englishman fails to impress.
