Former Ajax and Manchester United goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar feels a certain African star should win the Ballon d'Or over Real Madrid's Karim Benzema.

Benzema has been getting a lot of praise in recent months for his displays for Los Blancos, who are edging closer to reclaiming the LaLiga while he also guided the club to a Champions League semi-final.
The Frenchman has been Real's standout performer with 39 goals and 13 assists across all competitions this season, which has made one of the favourites for the Ballon d'Or.
However Van der Sar believes Senegal and Reds star Sadio Mane is deserving of the Ballon d'Or for this season.
"Benzema Ballon d’Or? For me it’s no. Wait, there’s a player currently doing just as well as Benzema and no one is talking about him," Van der Sar said, during a Twitter space, according to Africatopsports.
"Do you know Sadio Mane? Along with [Mohamed] Salah, Sadio has been Liverpool’s best player for several seasons now. If any player should win the Ballon d’Or, it’s him."
Mane would be only the second African player to win the prestigous accolade after Liberia's George Weah beat out Jurgen Klinsmann and Jari Litmanen in 1995.
