Result: Liverpool 1-1 Southampton
Date: 25 October 2015
Venue: Anfield
Liverpool were forced to settle for a point, after being held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton at Anfield on Sunday evening.
The opening exchanges proved to be an open affair, although the neither side managed to create opportunities in the final third.
Southampton were presented with the first meaningful opening in the 20th minute when Steven Davis got on the end of Sakho's failed clearance, however the midfielder could only produce a tame effort from 12-yards out.
James Milner went close for the home side in the 29th minute, as the midfielder combined well with Adam Lallana, before curling an effort just wide of the upright.
Alberto Moreno continued to threaten down the left flank but he squandered a chance before the break, as he collected a pass from Coutinho, before firing horribly wide of the target from close range.
Jurgen Klopp decided to change things at the start of the second half, as he introduced Christian Benteke for Origi.
The Reds started to see more of the ball as the second half went on, while they nearly grabbed in the opener in the 56th minute but no one connected with Moreno's inviting cross.
Moreno then came to Liverpool's rescue at the other end, as he produced a stunning last ditch challenge to stop Sadio Mane, who was through on goal.
Klopp's charges eventually broke the deadlock in the 77th minute when Milner picked out Benteke, who rose highest to power home an unstoppable header at the Kop end.
Mane squandered a chance to level matters for Southampton a minute later, as he controlled well in the box before volleying over from close range.
However, Mane was not to be denied in the 85th minute as the Senegalese bundled the ball home, after getting on the end of Virgil van Dijk's knockdown.
Southampton ended the encounter with 10 men, after Mane was given his marching orders after picking up his second yellow card in stoppage time.
