Shinji Okazaki's stunning first-half goal was enough to hand Leicester City a 1-0 win over Newcastle United at the King Power Stadium.
The Magpies got off to an encouraging start and could have gone ahead inside the opening five minutes, but Ayoze Perez placed his effort wide of the upright from 12-yards out.
After a quiet spell in the half, the hosts went ahead in the 24th minute, as Jamie Vardy's knockdown found Shinji Okazaki, who fired past Tim Elliot with an impressive bicycle kick.
The Foxes nearly extended their advantage moments later, as Marc Albrighton weaved his way to goal, before curling an effort inches wide of the upright.
Newcastle struggled to create clear cut openings in the first half and were restricted to efforts from distance.
Rafael Benitez opted to change his approach 10 minutes into the second half and introduced Andros Townsend for Vurnon Anita, as they searched for an equaliser.
Siem De Jong squandered a chance to level matters for Newcastle in the 84th minute, as the Dutchman fired a tame effort at Kasper Schmeichel from close range.
The Magpies pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages of the half but failed to bypass a water-tight Leicester defence.
Claudio Ranieri's charges have now restored their five-point lead over Tottenham Hotspur at the top. While, Newcastle remain in 19th spot, one point adrift of safety.
