English Premier League
Result: Chelsea 1-1 Southampton
Date: 15 March 2015
Venue: Stamford Bridge
Dusan Tadic's penalty cancelled out Diego Costa's header, as Chelsea and Southampton played out to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues broke the deadlock in the 11th minute, as Branislav Ivanovic picked out Diego Costa from the right and the Spaniard headed home from three-yards out.
The Saints nearly hit back a minute later but Thibaut Courtouis was on hand to deny Sadio Mane from six-yards out, after some good work down the left flank by Dusan Tadic.
However, shortly after Mane's effort had been thwarted, the Senegalese forward was brought down in the box by Nemanja Matic and the referee awarded a penalty, which Tadic dispatched right down the middle.
Chelsea upped the tempo in the second half and almost restored their lead in the 57th minute, when Willian lashed a cross-cum-shot across the face of the goal, which Costa could only turn onto the upright.
Fraiser Forster came to Southampton's rescue in the 72nd minute, the shot-stopper reacted well to keep out Eden Hazard's header before saving the Belgian's rebound effort.
Jose Mourinho's men continued to push for a winner in the closing stages but were unable to bypass Forster, who pulled off two saves in quick succession to deny Cesar Azpilicueta and John Terry respectively.
The Saints managed to hold out and claim a valuable point on the road, while Chelsea extend their lead over Manchester City to six points.
