Manchester City handed Seven Gerrard his first defeat as Aston Villa manager after securing a 2-1 win at Villa Park.
The defending Premier League champions opened the scoring on 27 minutes courtesy of Ruben Dias, before his countryman Bernardo Silva doubled the lead two minutes before the break.
Ollie Watkins pulled goal for Gerrard's men shortly after the break, but they were unable to find the equaliser as the Citizens cemented second spot.
