English Premier League
Teams: Arsenal v Chelsea
Date: 3 January 2018
Venue: Emirates Stadium
Arsenal will be looking to continue their recent good form in fixtures against Chelsea when they host their fierce rivals at the Emirates Stadium on Wednesday night.
The Blues have been a perpetual thorn in the Gunners’ side during the Roman Abramovich era, with their most notable win over Arsenal coming in a 6-0 drubbing in March 2014.
However, times have since changed and Arsène Wenger’s side has caused problems for Chelsea since Antonio Conte took over as manager ahead of the 2016/17 season.
Under the Italian, the Blues have only beaten the Gunners once in competitive fixtures — and they slumped to defeats in the 2017 FA Cup final and Community Shield.
However, Chelsea still boast the upper hand over Arsenal in the race for the top four, having picked up 45 points in 21 games to the Gunners’ 38.
Should Arsenal lose today, it will become significantly more difficult for them to haul in fourth-placed Liverpool, who currently lead Wenger’s side by six points.
With Manchester City running away from the chasing pack, the rest of the Premier League has effectively been left to fight for second.
There is little chance that Chelsea will be able to haul in Pep Guardiola’s side even if they do beat Arsenal, but regardless of the league standings, there is always plenty at stake in this hostile London derby.
Here's how they line up:
Arsenal: Cech; Holding, Mustafi, Chambers; Bellerin, Xhaka, Wilshere, Maitland-Niles; Ozil, Sanchez; Lacazette.
Chelsea: Courtois; Cahill, Christensen, Azpilicueta; Moses, Kante, Bakayoko, Alonso; Fabregas; Hazard, Morata.
