Full Time: Southampton 3-2 Liverpool
Date: 20 March 2016
Venue: St. Mary’s Stadium
A brace from Sadio Mane saw Southampton come from behind to beat Liverpool 3-2 in an English Premier League match at St. Mary’s Stadium on Sunday.
Liverpool were by far the better side in the opening half and took the lead in the 17th minute courtesy of a powerful shot from Philippe Coutinho which found the bottom right corner, 1-0.
Five minutes later the Reds doubled their lead when Divock Origi played Daniel Sturridge through on goal and he made no mistake with just the keeper to beat, 2-0.
Joe Allen thought he had found Liverpool’s third in the 35th minute, but his goal was disallowed because he was in an off-sides position.
The half ended 2-0 in favour of Liverpool.
Southampton were afforded an opportunity to pull a goal back five minutes in the second half, but Mane missed from the penalty spot after Martin Skrtel committed a foul inside the box.
Mane made up for his miss with his side’s opening goal in the 64th minute when he beat the keeper in a one-on-one, 2-1.
Southampton continued to press forward and were finally rewarded with an equaliser in the 83rd minute thanks to an 18-yard shot from Graziano Pelle, 2-2.
Mane scored the winner three minutes later after being played through on goal by Pelle and he once again showed calmness under pressure with a clinical finish, 3-2.
