English Premier League
Result: Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 Chelsea
Date: 05 December 2018
Venue: Molineux Stadium
Wolverhampton Wanderers came from behind to secure a shock 2-1 victory over Chelsea in the English Premier League on Wednesday evening.
Following their victory over Fulham on the weekend, the Londoners were hoping to close the gap on Manchester City and Liverpool.
And in the earlier exchanges, the deadlock was broken when a shot from Ruben Loftus-Cheek wrong-footed Rui Patricio before hitting the near post.
Willian nearly made it two with a long-range free-kick, but Patricio was quick to tip over the top for a corner.
Wolves threatened the equaliser when a cross out wide found Raul Jimenez inside the box, but he was unable to get his header on target.
In similar fashion, another wide side delivery from the hosts found Jimenez in the box yet again but he headed over the top from close range.
Chelsea were on the front early on in the second period when Loftus-Cheek came close to a second, but he flashed his effort wide of target.
After being picked out, Willian brought the ball down to take a strike on the volley but it flashed wide across goal.
Jimenez was to be rewarded for his relentless pressure, as he finished off a nice delivery under neat Kepa Arrizabalaga at the near post.
Releasing Matt Doherty down the right paved the way for Diogo Jota, who was at the right place and time to guide home the low cross.
An in-swinging corner from Joao Moutinho found Saiss at the far post, but the latter was sadly unable to get his header on target in the final quarter.
After making contact with the ball, Cesc Fabregas took a touch on the edge of the box but his final effort went off target as the Blues suffer back-to-back away defeats.
Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Southampton
