However in the 50th minute Romelu Lukaku broke the deadlock, as the Belgian headed home from close range, after some good work by Yannick Bolasie.
Ross Barkley made it 2-0 in the 76th minute. He initially was at the heart of a counter-attack as he drifted brilliantly out of danger and released the ball to Lukaku with a fantastic cross field pass. The Belgian waited for his teammate to catch up and picked him out at the far post and Barkley slotted home on the volley.
The game slowed somewhat and effectively West Ham were wrestled out of the game for a home win for Everton.
