Hammers Edge Past Struggling Chelsea

English Premier League

Result: West Ham 2-1 Chelsea

Date: 24 Octoberr 2015

Venue: Boleyn Ground

West Ham added to Chelsea’s woes with a well-fought 2-1 victory in a tightly contested Barclays Premiership clash on Saturday afternoon.

Chelsea were quick out the starting blocks, with Diego Costa coming close in the 8th minute. The Blues were looking good in the opening exchanges but it was Mauro Zarate who grabbed the opener for West Ham United in the 16th minute.

Jose Mourinho’s men upped the tempo in search of the equalizer, but the hosts were looking solid in defence. James Collins almost extended the hosts lead in the 34th minute before Manuel Lanzini blasted his effort well above the mark.

The teams went into the half-time break with The Hammers holding a slender 1-0 lead.

The Blues had a superb start to the second half as Gary Cahill slotted the ball into the bottom corner to draw the visitors level after 55 minutes of play. Zarate almost responded straight away but his effort was well saved.

West Ham were looking good with the half’s progression, and were finally rewarded with a goal courtesy of an Andy Carroll header in the 78th minute following a well-worked corner.

Chelsea added numbers into their attack with the final whistle looming, but West Ham held on for a magnificent 2-1 victory, adding more pressure to struggling Chelsea’s campaign.
