English Premier League
Result: Watford 0-0 Tottenham Hotspur
Date: 18 January 2020
Venue: Vicarage Road
Tottenham Hotspur's top four aspirations took yet another knock after dropping points at Watford on Saturday afternoon.
Christian Eriksen was once again left on the bench as he reportedly is set to leave the club in the coming weeks while Jan Vertonghen and Erik Lamela earned re-calls.
The Hornets showed initiative in the early stages, with Gerard Deulofeu and Ismalia Sarr trying the luck at goal in the opening 17 minutes while Spurs had yet to threaten at other end.
Spurs certainly lacked the spark in the middle of the park and only looked like scoring on the counter, despite having the likes of Giovanni Le Celso and Lamela on the park.
Unfortunately, that proved to be the trend for the rest of the stanza for the visitors, while Watford did go close with a Troy Deeney header in the latter stages of the half.
It was more of the same in the second half, as Deeney and Sarr went close top breaking the deadlock for the home side inside the opening 10 minutes.
Watford were then awarded a penalty on 70 minutes when Deulofeu's effort struck the arm of Vertonghen, however Spurs goalkeeper Paul Gazzaniga went the right and kept out Deeney's spot-kick.
Both sides continued to push for the opening goal in the latter stages, but neither could carve out another clear-cut opening as the spoils were shared in London.
