Manchester United's top four hopes have been ended after they suffered a 2-1 loss to Tottenham Hotspur in the last ever match at White Hart Lane.
Spurs broke the deadlock after just five minutes when un-marked Victor Wanyama rose well to head home Ben Davies' cross.
United nearly hit back in the 12th minute but Wayne Rooney steered his header over the crossbar from a corner.
De Gea then came to United's rescue after 20 minutes when did well to deny Son Heung-Min just moments of Anthony Martial went close at the other end.
Mourinho started with five defenders, which was evident by their approach as they sat back with the hope of catching Spurs on the counter.
However, Spurs doubled their lead shortly after the break when Harry Kane flicked the ball past De Gea at the front post, after United failed to deal with an in-swinging free-kick.
Mourinho responded with a double change after 60 minutes as Ander Herrera and Henrikh Mkhitaryan replaced Axel Tuanzebe and Jesse Lingard.
The Red Devils reduced the deficit 10 minutes later when Martial got to they byline before picking out Wayne Rooney, who slotted home from close range, 2-1.
Mourinho threw on Marcus Rashford with just over 10 minutes remaining in the second half and the striker went close to equalising in stoppage time, but he fired wide from close range.
Nonetheless, Spurs managed to hold on for the victory, which sees them cement second spot, while United can no longer make the top four.
