Spurs Keep Title Hopes Alive

English Premier League

Result: Tottenham Hotspur 3-1 Leicester City

Date: 10 February 2019

Venue: Wembley Stadium

Tottenham Hotspur kept their slim Premier League title hopes alive with a 3-1 victory over Leicester City at Wembley Stadium.

Foxes manager Claude Puel opted to leave star striker Jamie Vardy on the bench, while Spurs handed a start to Fernando Llorene in Harry Kane's continued absence.

As expected, the visitors sat quite deep in their own half and gave the North London outfit no space to carve out any clear-cut openings in the final third.

Leicester's resolve was eventually broken on 33 minutes when Davinson Sánchez met a cross from Christian Eriksen before sending a powerful header past Kasper Schmeichel.

The remaining stages of the half failed to provide clear openings for either side as Spurs took a slight advantage into the halftime break.

Vardy was eventually introduced on the hour mark and he had the immediate chance to level matters from the penalty spot, but the striker's spot-kick was saved by Hugo Lloris.

Leicester were made to rue that miss as as Spurs doubled their lead three minutes through Eriksen's powerful finish from close range.

Vardy managed to pull a goal back with 13 minutes remaining after finishing off well-worked passing move.

However, Spurs restored their two-goal lead in the first minute of time added on thanks  to Son Heung-min's finish.
