Tottenham Secure Comfortable Win Over Struggling Villa

English Premier League
Result: Tottenham 3-1 Aston Villa
Date: 2 November 2015
Venue: White Hart Lane
Tottenham moved up to fifth in the English Premier League standings with a 3-1 win against Aston Villa on Monday night.
Spurs took control of the clash straight from the off as they put their noses in front in the third minute. Mousa Dembele simply powered past Ciaran Clark, controlling a pass before beating Bradley Guzan from a tight angle.
The hosts looked set to surge further into the lead with two chances right after each other. Harry Kane cut inside from the left and got a shot away but it was deflected off target.
From the ensuing corner kick Danny Rose almost made it 2-0 when Christian Eriksen played it into his feet, but the shot went just over the goal as Villa survived the onslaught.
Spurs found their second goal in first-half stoppage time. Joleon Lescott's attempted clearance of Rose's cross fell perfectly for Alli who coolly slotted the ball into the bottom corner.
The home side looked supremely comfortable with their two-goal lead as Villa struggled to create anything of substance in the opposing third of the pitch.
Villa did, however, hit the woodwork before moments later finding a glimmer of hope as they pulled a goal back in the 79th minute. Ryan Mason gave the ball away and Jordan Ayew took advantage as he sent low his shot into the back of the net.
However, in stoppage time Kane added a third, smashing home Erik Lamela's pass at the far side of the Villa box.
