Olivier Giroud struck late in the second half to earn Arsenal a 1-1 draw with Southampton on Sunday afternoon.
The Saints got off to the perfect start as Charlie Austin combined well with Dusan Tadic before calmly slotting past Petr Cech from close range, 1-0.
The Gunners almost levelled matters in the 11th minute but Pierre-Emile Højbjerg produced a fine last ditch tackle to deny Alexandre Lacazette a clear sight at goal.
Fraser Forster came to Southampton's rescue on 31 minutes as he produced a fine save to deny Aaron Ramsey from the edge of the box.
The visitors enjoyed most of the possession in the final 15 minutes of the second half, but they were unable to carve out another clear-cut chance.
Arsenal looked lively in the opening stages of the first half with Alexis Sanchez and Lacazette combing well, however they failed to test Forster.
In the 61st minute, Southampton nearly doubled their when Oriel Romeu unleashed a powerful strike that crashed against the upright.
Arsene Wenger opted for a change on 72 minute as Lacazette made way for Olivier Giroud as the Gunners went for a more direct approach.
The change paid off for Arsenal as Giroud equalised on 88 minutes by heading home a cross from Alexis Sanchez.
Both sides pushed for a winning goal in the closing stages but chances were hard to come by and they settled for a share of the spoils.
