English Premier League
Result: Newcastle United 1-4 Manchester United
Venue: St James' Park
Manchester United got back to winning ways in the Premier League with a come-from-behind 4-1 victory over Newcastle United on Saturday night.
Paul Pogba dropped to the bench alongside new signing Alex Telles while fellow signing Edinson Cavani was in insolation after previously testing positive for Covid-19.
The Red Devils got off to the worst possible start as the Magpies broke the deadlock on two minutes when Luke Shaw deflected Emil Krafth's cross into his own net.
United had the ball in the back of the net in 19th minute through Bruno Fernandes' fine finish, but the strike was ruled for Juan Mata's offside in the build-up.
The visitors were not to be denied a few minutes later when Harry Maguire nodded home Mata's corner for the equaliser.
While neither side could find a second goal in the remaining stages of the first half, Newcastle went close to restoring their lead on 51 minutes when Callum Wilson's effort forced De Gea into a superb one-hand save.
United were awarded a penalty in the 57th minute after the Video Assistant Referee spotted a foul on Marcus Rashford in the box, but Fernandes was unable to convert after his seeing spot-kick saved by Karl Darlow.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer threw on Pogba for the final 30 minutes in place of Fred while Daniel James made way for Donny van de Beek 10 minutes later.
It was Fernandes who got the second goal as the Portugal international found the back of the net with a composed finish from close range after combining with Rashford.
United managed to get a third goal on 90 minutes when Rashford played in Aaron Wan-Bissaka, who rifled the ball into the roof of the net for his first goal for the club on his 50th appearance for United.
Rashford rounded off the scoring in second-half stoppage time with a thumping finish past Darlow as United got their league campaign back on track.
